I second Bill's suggestion, bottle openers are popular and twisting is a
very good demo process. The audience gets a strong visual demonstration of
steel's prasticity at temperature. They get to see in an understandable way
the transition and process. No need for fancy twists but if you have time
for say 15 minutes a pineapple twist is a show stopper it's such a dramatic
transition.
I also suggest doing the twisting first as it's the section that needs the
most even heat and will be the thickest section. Thinning the ends for the
finial means it will heat much faster and be more vulnerable to heat damage
plus thinner section doesn't hold the heat as long so the wrench(s) and or
vise can draw the heat faster. Twisting first also makes easier and more
natural looking transitions.
Of course that's my experience and techniques YMMV.

Hey Bruce,
A lot of the "maker" crowd is into beer brewing. Make some bottle openers
from 3/8" or 1/2 square stock. You can slit and drift an eye, twist or
taper the handle, etc. You can sell them when done. The ones that are to
young for beer are drinking soda, so you are still good there.
