[TheForge] How to forge a big rug-latch hook?

The kind of latch hook I mean is this:

You can buy these commercially for $2 - $8 US, with a hook of roughly 1/8"
in span,

Unfortunately, I need hooks with about at 1/4" span, and I can't find any
such manufactured.

The hook in the picture is fairly flat from side-to-side, but that is not
critical to me. I'm thinking of drawing out the end of 1/4" square stock
for the hook, then drilling a 1/16" hole for the latch. The latch would be
1/16" spring wire, run through the hole, bent over on each side, the two
ends brazed together, and ground to shape.

Anyone have a better idea? I need a few of these, all pretty much alike.
