Peter,

I have two of these Allstates torches. They are fantastic. They are made for
Allstates by Harris. A couple of years ago the guy would handles Harris for
the Western half of the US was out here with a motorcycle group and we
talked about the torch, prices etc.

I questioned him on getting one of the torches. He called the home office at
Harris and was told that Harris sells the same torch they sell to Allstates
to anyone. I checked some sellers and you can pick those torches up for a
fraction of the price. I did some searching and found a dealer on the net
that sells them pretty cheap.

The only question I still have is the propane regulator. The one that comes
with the Allstates kit is self adjusting and goes up as I understand it to
only 4oz. That's all this torch needs but you can crank the Oxy up to 120
lbs and more. I don't know where you would get that same regulator or if it
is necessary.

Allstates only sells these over the net or through demonstrators and keep
the prices ridiculously high. For example the Harris tip through them costs
3 times as much as the same number Harris costs from anyone else. Since Lyle
died the service and cooperation from the allstates people has deteriorated.

I can look up the parts numbers and send them to you if you like

Theforge seems pretty dead...so i thought to post something to see if anyone
is still alive here.
Frosty has enthusiastically touted these torches for years and i've never
been able to afford one new or find one used.
It appears that they are really good and efficient at oxy-propane rosebud
heating and pretty good at economical cutting.
The rest of the claims seem ripe with hype..I say this without ever using
one.
Using my biggest Victor rosebud for spot heat while forging and bending...I
burn a heck of a lot of oxy and the nearest gas distributor is over the
mountain, an hour and a half drive away.
But...The full on, "Magnum" AllStates rig costs around $1500! And just
enough stuff to run their rosebud looks like around $1000 according to Darin
there.
The web site is amateurish, there is no 800# or parts list, or price list...
The guy who invented it is RIP. Wonder how long they will remain in
business?
Did i mention they also sell riding mowers and guns and ammo?
So, if anyone has an allstates torch rig they want to sell cheap..please let
me know....
Otherwise, it's gunna have to save a whole heck of a lot of oxy to begin to
justify the price!
