[TheForge] Jet tailstock disassembly?

Andy,

I don't know anything about taking apart a tail stock. But usually a thin
oil if given time to penitrate will loosen things up, if there is nothing
broken inside. Most of the time if there is any movement at all, the oil
will find a way in if you work on it.

The tail stock on my lathe has a lever that you can tighten to lock it in
place. When the lever is backed off it is really loose.

Subject: [TheForge] Jet tailstock disassembly?

I've been making jack posts for the house and the tops are 3" round
stock, 1" thick, with a 1" hole drilled. So far I've made 6 of 14 but
it's killing me. I am using a friend's Jet lathe and the tailstock feed
is SO tight I can barely move the wheel. Last week I tore it apart but
was unable to get the quill out. I got the handwheel off, then the
retained; unscrewed the lead; removed the lead nut, removed what I
thought was the stop bolt that screws into to tailstock body on the
bottom and engages a slot cut into the bottom of the quill. The whacked
it with a lead mallet. Quill is REALLY tight in the hole, but moves to
a point and then stops dead.

The only thing I did not do was remove the tailstock body from its base.
I was hoping to avoid this so as not to have to re-center it, which
can be a great PITA.

Do any of you know what I might be missing? I want to get this thing
apart so I figure out why it is so tight and perhaps lap it in a bit
better if perchance it is necessary.

Thanks.
