You're right, 2 years is nothing. You might try a threaded barb, it 
screws into the hose, use lube and hose is crimped on with another screw 
collar that compresses the hose onto the barb. I can't remember what 
they're called but remember the beasts well. They're a serious PITA to 
R&R but they don't fail if the hose is competent. These are what we used 
on hydraulic liness in the field where we didn't have a hydraulic swage 
to crimp fittings.

Thinking about it, if you have to drive to town to buy one of the PITA 
screw barb fittings, just take the hose and have the fitting swaged on. 
Oh for sure, buy a couple screw barb (whatever they're called) fittings 
so you can spend hours next time one blows swearing at the thing rather 
than taking a ride to town. Seriously though, at some point the time 
you're spending trying to MAKE something and the risk of having a high 
pressure hose blow *in your hand* is far more expensive than just taking 
it to town. Your time is expensive but nothing compared to body parts.
