Mike...I'd guess the top of the tup has 2 rollers for the end of the spring.
Pleasingly minimal and low cost...Sure not a lot of extra parts though!.

Vaguely like the Palmer Power Spring Hammer except no allowance for
fore and aft movement in the central pivot (because the end of the
spring moves in an arc but the ram is constrained and can't follow.)
