Imagining the hyper dramatic shop layout,
with the anvil mounted firmly atop
a massive , facetted, basalt column 
that extends  unbroken
down to pierce the earth's crust.
when the anvil is struck soundly
volcanos in the South Pacific,
 fart.

1 I vote for a dense hardwood stump that adds to the anvil mass and facilitates 
impact transmission to the floor. The more mass under the falling hammer, the 
less work you have to do.
