[TheForge] Advice for a beginner.

Carrie: Frosty's advice is always good.
I got my start at the first Renn Faires and they were kind to me.
You can invent your role to jolly well suit your self ( pun intended)
And a properly configured leather corset has a lot to say for itself.
Rebar is very variable stuff because it's made to achieve a minimum rated strength for it's spec...doesn't matter if it's harder, stronger in spots..etc..
They use whatever scrap comes in. Makes for extra work and can be extra educational.
But, there will be stamped specs on each length that you can look up. Older rebar has tensile strength ratings like 60, 80, 120...referring to 60,000#, 80,000#
The lower that #, the easier it'll be to forge. Higher tensile #s will make basic tools. Just expect to make a fair % of new additions to your utter-scrap pile.
Both Anvilfire and Iforgeiron.com have whole , free educations in blacksmithing right on the site.
A fine challenge would be to make your self some sets of tongs. Both the afore mentioned sites have simple tong designs.

Dan, my interest in smithing is along the lines of functional art (pot
racks, utensils, etc). As much as I love renfaires reenactment isn't
something I'm all that interested in, smithing in a corset sounds
dangerous.
