We got those two warm days in NJ too. It may have got into the 90's
here! Such out-of-season warm spells are not uncharacteristic of NJ's
rather weird weather patterns, but these were exceptional.

Then a week later it's back to winter-like weather and long johns.
Now it looks like we might be getting a seasonal warming.

I've been spending a ridiculous amount of time plumbing up my
rainwater collection system. (That's a rainbarrel's big cousin.) It
now consists of five 55-bal rain barrels and eight 275-gal IBC totes,
rigged to catch rainwater from house and garage more or less
sequentially (one fills first, then the next, etc.) -- but land
lay-out and cost got in the way of a completely sequential system.
I've been working recently on plumbing in a shallow-well pump to
provide pressure for hose and sprinklers. This was new to me and
getting the pump to work correctly with the foot valve (and the
pressure switch and the float valve) was the main problem. I've
solved that, but not finished installing it.

I'm almost finished. (I've been almost finished for a week or more.)
It should work well, but it won't actually save me money. What it
will do is allow me to water when the watering ban goes into effect
during the summer's drought. That, of course, always occurs just when
I need the water for the garden, and -- bye, bye, garden.
