Don is a smart guy and his critiques of many alternative energy "solutions" are right on. The place we need to be spending money in alternative energy is R&D not subsidies for existing PV, hydrogen, ethanol etc.  Wind and water work well if you have the geography for it but existing commercial solar technology is as he points out a net energy loss.
