If you cant tell the difference between zamac, real aluminum, copper alloys, and cast iron, you need to take the part to somebody who can. This is mostly experience- feel, weight, and just having seen a lot of it. 
most zamac (cheap zinc aluminum alloys) are for throwaway, low stress parts, and the stuff is NOT repairable, 90% of the time. There is often lead in these alloys as well, which melts out, like the zinc, at very low temps, meaning any brazing or welding fixes fail every time.
