I think I started one of those threads. In my case the young person did 
what young people do best...Moved on to another interest before anything 
really got off the ground.

However two things suggested which made a lot of sense for safety were 
leather or flame retardant full cover aprons and a dedicated spotter for 
sparks and slag going to bad places.

Anvil placement it was agreed was a "no right answer" sort of thing. It 
depended a lot on upper body strength for wielding the hammer and any 
other motion type of limitations. Design for the smith.

The suggestion was also made that perhaps a screw or hydraulic press 
might be a suitable alternative.
