The second amendment wording recognizes that a government will have a 
"well regulated militia" and to prevent that government controlled 
militia from taking power from its citizens, "the right of the people to 
keep and bear arms shall not be infringed". King George had tried to 
disarm the colonies and our founders specifically wrote into the "Bill 
of Rights" a provision to give individual citizens the ability to 
prevent government from overrunning our rights. Individual citizens did 
in fact withstand and defeat a "full on assault from the British".
