I used to be so mad sometimes by the time I got the fire going I was not in
the mood to forge.
Then I switched to home made lump charcoal which takes a half sheet of new
print to start and everything in GOOD.
As suggested try using kindleling or get some lump charcoal just to start
the fire with.



I don't know from L-Brand Coke, but we use coke all the time at our
open-forge meetings.  Kindling is essential, but I've got it started using
only newspaper.  Others prefer to add wood.  It does tend to make a fool of
you, especially when somebody is watching....
