Andy,

Here, if you go into the local USDA office they will print you out a map of 
your property with the acrage of each section marked.  They need that for 
all the crop programs they offer.  One caution, if you aren't on their radar 
and want to keep it that way you may want to avoid all government agencies. 
After I got a map to figure out a land lease they started to harase me to 
take all kinds of farm surveys. It took me three years to convince them that 
I wasn't a real farmer and didn't want any of their programs.
