That's a rotary drill and useful in good conditions as it doesn't have
enough torque to move cobles out of the way or carry large quantities of
sand and gravel up the auger. If you're "free holing" in clay all you need
is a tricone, bi cone or button bit and a water supply. The bit rubs the
clay while water washes it up the hole and out. If you're in rock you need a
tricone and down pressure, in rock a button bit needs either down pressure
or a hammer drill.
