All right a spring tile is a red clay tile 2' or better that is
placed over an excavated spring so that the dirt can't get in . It
lets the water accumulate and has a cover to keep leaves, frogs and
such out. Before they drilled a well here they had a pipe hooked to
shallow well pump to supply water to the house. And yes you back fill
the tile. Check the spring at least once a year for washed in dirt
and remove it and if your concerned about bacteria put some bleach in
twice a year.
