Go to your local conservation office, they should have information. Just in 
the past week, I read a article in some farm magazine about this subject. It 
may have been a cattle magazine. Springs are used for watering cattle in 
many of the southern states.
We have one in a pasture that someone many years ago, dug a pipe in, going 
back into the side of the hill.
