It's called an "isolation switch." Most places, plugging a generator into
your house without one is illegal AND besides not wanting to injure/kill
people or damage property, you're liable for it all. The elec co doesn't
have any trouble tracing unisolated gensets either and usually come visit
before anyone is electrocuted. Here they bring police with a serious ticket
and fine attached.
