A friend had that problem and agonized for weeks. I suggested he take it
apart, check, clean and lubricate everything and reassemble. That was
over a year ago and it is still working. As suggested, clear your
exhaust, (mud daubers can wreak havoc) but as also suggested it could be
a friction problem. Do not despair; we'll get it fixed....

Several years ago, I built a power hammer based off of the Kinyon plans.
I did the modification with the regulator to balance strike and return
pressures.
Anyway, it seems to have a bit of a problem. After running for about 15
minutes, the speed of the ram slows way down. This doesn't seem to have
anything to do with the switch sticking (I installed a line oiler right
before the sensor switch), or the height of the work. It seems to be
mostly time of use related. I need some help in figuring out what is
wrong and fixing it. I'm willing to post pictures or run tests as
needed.
Here is a link to a video I made shortly after I built it.

The ram guides are sheets of UHMW Polyethylene held in place by set
screws. Definatley something I will check out when I run it next.
Air cylinder? Possibly. It doesn't have that much time on it, and I've
always run it with the oiler going. It also has a floating connector
(blanking on the name) between the cylinder and the ram. Don't know if
that might be part of the cause or not.
I'll check to see what feels warm the next time it does it. I'm hoping to
get some shop time in this weekend.
Thanks!
Todd

My trip valve could definately use a better system that I've got, but I've
checked it while it was having this problem, and making sure it was
tripping well didn't correct the problem.
I will check the exhaust, but wouldn't that be more of a continual
problem, rather than one that kicks in about 10-15 minutes in? Also, it
does vary over time with how much it slows down. It is not a continually
slower as time goes on effect. Sort of normal...slow...slower...slow...
slowest...slow....slower.
Thank you!

I put a dump valve on my exhaust to maximize the hit power. It some
times hangs up after the hammer sits for a month or two. I have to
tear it apart break it free and lube it.

Could be your oiler. Too much oil will gum up the spool valve.
It should use a lot less oil than one might think.
If you use a drop of oil per day, that is too much.
