Not entirely ridiculous.  We were looking at a 160 acre parcel in WV, 
access to which was via a rickety steel bridge crossing Big Creek. 
Seller confirmed my  uneasy suspicion that it would have to be replaced. 
  Cost was upward of $400K, which would have more than doubled the price 
of the property.  Point here is that these things can get very costly 
and if your sole access to home is over a bridge that absolutely needs 
replacing... well...
