The danger isn't a gradual build up of pressure probably,
Rather it's if the " brown smoke" of volatiles gets just enough oxy and flashes.
A friend , Al( RIP) was firing a VW sized pottery kiln, years ago. He was using drain oil as fuel,
and had a modest little fire going, "candling" the kiln all night.
When he turned on the blowers, there was a brief puff of heavy brown smoke, a heavy whumph!
and the kiln went flying in all directions.
Some of the bricks flew over 100 feet and Al's full beard, eyebrows and hair evaporated.
I was about 70' away and we did some hasty fire control while Al went straight to his water tank.
He was face down in the water, coming up only for breath, for a couple of hours.
No lasting damage to Al, except his craftsman's pride.
