IIRC, there's one barrel inverted inside a larger barrel, right?  Fuel
in the space between.  Air holes at/near the bottom of the outer
barrel so the annular space serves as a firebox and the thing stuck on
top is a flue that helps create some up-draught.

No opening in the bottom (which is up) of the inner barrel so active
burning doesn't propagate there.
