On my farm place in Minnesota, I used a shallow well pump similar to the
the link that I posted from Northern Hydraulics. It was a "dug" well 30
inches diameter but only going down only about 30 feet into the ground.
you'd have to imagine it to be something like you would see in an old
west movie. The lift height from the plastic water pipe going to a
screened filter in the dug well was under 20 feet ( water had to be
"sucked" less than 20 feet. I put the whole thing in myself, when the
prior one failed ... circa 1983. At that time, I bought all the components
from a Sears catalog.

On the pressure side of the pump, it would provide water at 40 pounds
pressure easily serve the farm's watersupply system.

Submersible pumps are needed for deep wells.
On my Iowa farm, we have a drilled well that pumps water from 175 feet
below surface.. and that requires a submerible pump down at the bottom of
the well to push the water up.
