Paul,

At least you are going into it with your eyes wide open.

You are right, the electric blower does make it easeir to make forge welds.

I've seen some forges set up so you could switch back and fourth between 
electric and hand crank, I may get that done some day, but for now will 
stick with my hand crank.

BTW, (in response to Bob's suggestion) I have used a forge with an
electric blower, and you do use more fuel. I'm looking to control the
"idle" blast, but sometimes (like while forge welding) being able to
keep the fire hot while I'm at the anvil will be a big time saver. I'm
intending to use baffles and blast gates to control my draft.
