Actually there does not appear to be any restriction on paint schemes,
but Steve ran the shop and they were his tanks so I would think he knew
the process used to pretty them up- Who would have thought a heat lamp
could generate enough heat to affect a metal that much.
An excellent diver doesn't necessarily know about thermal changes
affecting molecular structure of aluminum any more or probably less than
a blacksmith knows about heat treating; I had to show an otherwise very
good blacksmith what happens to car spring steel if it is heated to red
and suddenly quenched. (it won't work for a hydraulic lift fork)
Steve is the guy who got a call from a girl who had taken a diving
course from him at FSU. A diver was lost in a cave in Venezuela.
Steve caught a flight out of Florida, went to the underwater cave,
suited up, went in and found the diver alive and well in an air pocket.
Steve had strung a safety line and brought extra air so there was no
problem getting to the surface. The lost diver said he didn't know
angels spoke English. ><)))*> Ron C

I'm surprised any certified dive shop would attempt to fill powder
coated
tanks, al or fe. Heck, I probably wouldn't use a shop that careless. As
I
recall it's illegal to fill a dive tank that's been modified in any
non-approved way without doing a hydrostatic test. Anything folding
pressure
above a specific level I don't recall MUST be tested and certified
regularly
and follow some VERY rigid regulations.
