The PIR eyeballs from Shack and other places will pick up a chicken size critter from 12'. Phone wire (cheap) back to the house and a buzzer, and you know when they are out there. If you leave a light on, they get used to it. Makes it easy to shoot them. They will hear you open the window though, so I have a wood insert for my bedroom window. The insert has a quiet door that I can open and poke a long shot out to get the critters.
The alarm goes off, I roll over and see what color led is illuminated, and I know what window to shoot out of.
All the best.

I have to do battle with ground hogs, possums and coons to be able to get anything out of my garden. This is a necessity because what we put up feeds us all year. The running count this year so far 3 ground hogs, 1 possum.
