The old traditional ,grim and grizzly way is to get the
piece up to a good black heat and slather it with gritty
black drain oil.
If the oil flashes it's a tad too hot. Repeat the cycle
for added character. Wipe down when about 100 degrees.
It's kinda smoky fun, but there are drawbacks that have
diminished the technique's popularity.
