I haven't made a big stock purchase yet this year, but those prices are outrageous.
I think 20 feet of 1/4 sq is about 4 1/4 lbs. When I bought materials last summer, I paid about $1 per lb for hot rolled A-36, and a little more than twice that for cold rolled 1018.
If you paid the going rate, it may be time to cash in some of my scrap!

Subject: [TheForge] Metal Prices!
Well all,
I went out this afternoon to pick up a couple pieces of stock to use at a
Demo tomorrow
I almost lost my jaw by it dropping so far down!
For a stick of ¼ cold rolled square stock they are asking $31.70 for a 12
foot stick! The last couple of pieces (circa 2008) ran me just over $10
For a 20 piece of 3/8 hot rolled square they are getting $27+
All I can say is that place is Nucking Futz!
You guys seeing that sort of [extreme] price increases?
