Unsightly... 

AFAICT, roofing has now embraced planned obsolescence. On our house,
roofing on one side -- 3-in-1, double-coverage -- put on in 1981 was
leaking dramatically in 2003.  On the other side of the roof we had
arrow-lock, singe-coverage put on circa 1950 that wasn't leaking at all.
I doubt a little lichen is going to make much difference, at least not
compared with that kind of decline in durability.
