Bruce, copper roofing nails should not be hard to find.  Used with copper 
flashing and with copper standing seam roofs.

Since like most blacksmiths you are cheap (self included) you might find a 
sheet metal shop doing copper work and get some drops from them and also 
likely they will have the copper roofing nails.  We use them on a standing 
seam roof we did several years ago at the John C Campbell Folk School.

Copper isn't cheap but will outlast all of us.
