Sometimes it is not lying but rather is just wishful thinking. Back just after Fleischmann and Pons made there announcement of cold fusion the lab I worked for did a set of followup experiments as did virtually every research facility around the world. No one has ever replicated their results. The Toyota Motor Company hired Fleischmann and Pons after they left academia and spent $12 million on follow up experiments again no replication. I will not say it is impossible but the original experiments were flawed and no one in any credible lab has ever detected any fusion products from any of these experiments. This has been researched more than probably any other claim ever made and still no positive results. I certainly wish them luck but it is very doubtful.
