One or two more thoughts. the historic site went to canvas because the
leather kept getting rot, and they spent more time and $$$ fixing it
than time using it. I have never had to add weight to this bellows to
get better air flow, not even when heating 1 1/2 inch sq. to make
splitting wedges. There is an 1 1/2 X2 ? spline running all the way
across the back 1/4 of the bellows top and bottom, wood is 1/2" thick.
My only problem is not pumping it so hard now that we got rid of the
worn out canvas, I was pumping up and down  like I was trying to take
flight before.
