Hi Charles;
Given the acidification of the oceans (from CO2...that means us) it's
pretty apparent that we are affecting the global climate:
confirmed by the tendency of ancient glaciers to retreat, the
atmospheric CO2 rise. the spread of melting permafrost,
the growing evidence of increasing outgassing methane hydrate, the rise
in ocean levels, and so on.
There may be larger natural influences in the mix. We can't do much
about that.
The records of sediment and deep ice cores tell us of global temperature
changes of huge magnitude, over large spans of time.
We live in a climatologically calm period, The Little Ice Age has past ,
as have the much larger ones before it.
Similarly, enormous hot spells and droughts have wracked our temperate
zones...some within written history.
In this context, our life spans are relatively short...and the
climatological trends that affect us, look pretty damn tippy.
We are pushing on it pretty hard.
The numbers seem to indicate that we are at, or past, the balance point.
Wanna keep pushing?
Palin et al want to keep pushing...but then, it's mighty cold in Alaska
just now.
