That's not a real demanding heating scenario...you know what I'd use? A 
barbecue grill with wood charcoal and perhaps a hair dryer for a blower or 
none at all.
No smoke, lots of heat, though it wouldn't heat the whole ball to red at the 
same time even with the lid on...you'd have to roll the ball around to heat 
the other side while you're mashing on the other ball you just heated.
