I actually just had this conversation with some electricians a few
weeks ago. They just got a 110 welder for welding unustrut to columns
and I asked them the question about what if I hard to run my roll
around mig from my truck to 100 foot away. They told me that 10 ha
would work as long as I am not constantly running it. But doing 10
inch welds here and there would be fine.
A 50 amp breaker is there for a reason so I would use either 8 ga wire
for the full run or since you have the 10 ga, I would use it but
remember to not weld so much to heat up the wire so much. Remember
volts X amps is your welding watts. So 220 can use 25 amps to produce
the same watts as a 110 running 50 amps.
