Does the house have a particular architectural style? 
Is there landscaping? A fence, wall, etc?

If you can pick a detail from the surroundings and 
incorporate something that represents, contrasts or 
otherwise compliments it the gates will seem at home 
when installed.

Found objects is a good suggestion, there are lots of 
very cool things to be found.

Color is another thing you can use to detail it, the 
main color sets the theme and trim or dtail colors 
dress it up.
