I dont understand this fascination with clay line fire pots. Proper fire 
control will mitigate the heat of the fire.

The problem Ive seen over the past 10 years or so is that new smiths are 
not learning to control their fire.

Green coal in from the sides .. coke to the center..  if you properly 
manage your fire, a cast iron pot should last a lifetime of forging.

The green coal acts as an insulator during the coking process... IMHO 
there is no need for all this clay and refractory in a coal forge.

In between each heat you should be managing your fire..  it is as 
important as swinging your hammer.
