If you oil to the point that oil is running down the side of the  
machine that is too
much oil. Too much oil soon accumulates a layer of grit etc. More oil  
leads
to another layer of grit. I see this 'you can't over oil' comment at  
other blacksmithing
sites all the time.

Too much oil is not good.
