Terry I have used a Le Blonde for about seven years, I just upgraded to a Clausing Colchester.? I think if you get to eyeball or use any of the cheap Chinese you will be able to make a decision immediately.? A lot depends on how large the parts you are making are.? To a large degree it is always the operator and not the machine.? Having said that I have owned many American lathes and just a few Chinese and i would never NEVER buy a Grizzly/Jet etc.? The fit and finish are scary bad, the little things like handles,speed charts, shift levers are about as bad as you can get.? With a lathe a great deal of the cost is going into what you cant see and sometimes difficult to understand why a particular/bed/lead screw is better/more expensive until you use it.? It would sorta be like using a cast iron anvil with a claw hammer with a handle that was going to break soon.

If you want to see a Le Blonde or Clausing, Sheldon, South Bend I have them all.? My LeBlonde is still under power and The Colchester is almost underway.? I'm right across from Dimco.

Ben

hello;

i need a lathe to maintain the remotely operated vehicles (rovs) and i
am looking at the grizzly 13" x 40" high precision toolroom lathe.
g9731, 3 hp, 220 v, 3-phase.

would anyone in the list have experience with grizzly metal lathes?

the two machinist would like to search for a use leblond or two. given
the investment in the rovs i would rather have a known precision lathe
rather than an unknown lathe. so should i be listening to the two
machinists and allow them the time and money to search for a used
leblond or two?
