the job is to maintain several remotely operated vehicle (rovs) which
are certified to 2000 meters in depth. i would really rather not implode
a rov at depth if i can avoid it. ;-)

one of the problems i am facing and i myself am guilt of it and i admit
it. when searching for equipment, tools, resources, etc. the crew
members ( which includes me. ) have been wanting to get the cadillacs
and the rolls royce when a volkswagen or mini-cooper would do just fine.
i have had to step back myself and really think what it is we really
need. the most recent example was concerning purchasing several new air
compressors. the old air compressors are still working and where
rebuilt less than 6 months in a major refit of the one ship. there was
no good reason to purchase new compressors other than they look nice and
shiny compared to covered in diesel fuel residue, grime, and grease.
they will get a power washing instead of being replaced.
