[TheForge] underground house

I got to walk through a job site in Ward, Colorado where Terra Dome was
doing a two story. Weird idea, but I guess it works.

The other area I had some difficulty was property insurance. Our agent
talked to a lot of companies with no luck, I started calling the major
ones. Liberty Mutual had no problems with the idea. Since it was
non-conventional construction, it required the sales guy's boss to ok, but
they didn't see any issues.

Question for discussion:
As Allen mentions, underground (use the term 'earth sheltered' to avoid
alarming the bank) houses generally have some kind of forced air exchanger
to circulate air through the house. We are also putting in a barn and a
shop. The barn is 28x28, with a peak height (above floor) of ~16'. It has
an 8" hole in the roof, which will then have an external extension
(through ~3' of dirt and extending ~3' above final ground level). We may
put a spinner fan on it. Almost at floor level in the barn are two 4"
inlet vents, one in a corner, the other in the opposing corner. The barn
will house ~15 goats mostly. The shop (28x40) has very little ventilation
right now, just a chimney for the forge with no inlets (other than a
garage door at either end, and a combustion air inlet under the forge).
The chimney is 13", with similar heights to the barn except that the peak
height is only 13'.

What do people think about our shop and barn ventilation? I'm thinking I
may want more ventilation in the shop, and that the barn is probably ok.
