[TheForge] Beverly Shear safty

Bruce,
My B3 is on a tall stand to be used standing up. I think that by the time
the kids get tall enough to operate it they will be old enough to learn the
safty rules. A chain safty should be good on the B3.
My B2 is on a low base, to be used sitting down. I think that I will remove
the handle from it since I don't use it as often as the B3 so the time to
replace the handle isn't a big deal..
I think any kind of safety that requires a release on every stroke wouldn't
last long in my one man shop.

Bob,
I have little experience with child-proofing, but remember that kids
are clever little devils. If you want to keep a child safe, don't
think you can out-wit it. Rather, use some device that it is not
physically able to defeat, either because of strength or size. For
example, you might put some sort of catch or latch that grabs the
handle at the back of the stroke and prevents a second stroke. To
release this catch, you'd have to throw a release that is either too
difficult for a child, or is too far away for it to reach. However,
if it is too much trouble for you to do this, you'll ultimately
deactivate it. Not an easy problem.
