[TheForge] Sealing a fireplace screen

I need a sealant for a fireplace screen that will not mask the metal  
or make it shiny. I just want it to look like work-heated mild steel.  
Note that the design will have a whole lot of nooks and crannies in  
it, because a large section will be small gauge round rod some  
hammered and some just wrapped around one another. Obviously it has to  
be heat resistant.
