That's another feature of the Grasshopper. It fits under an 8'
ceiling. Had to. Marshall's shop is an old chicken coop!
I would like once again to thank Ray Maiara of Aurora Forge (
http://www.auroraforge.com/ ) for his contributions to the development
of the Grasshopper. Ray actually built the first treadle hammer using
a grasshopper linkage. It was not at all like my final design. Ray
was so enthusiastic about this project that he donated virtually all
the steel used to construct the prototype, including several feet of
6" solid round stock, from which we cut the anvil.
I've done a lot of dinking around on this treadle hammer. I recommend
anyone buy plans before building, whatever design you choose to build.
The cost of the plans is vanishingly small compared to the time
you'll waste without them.
