The only place i generally go voluntarily is the BS conferences and then
it's a low rent deal. Not much hopping on planes for us.
Appealing though.
My TH had really long arms in the first iteration, and thus a pretty
long stroke and flat arc...but i used the springs (top leaf, rear) from
my old '48 Chevy C60 , mounts and all and it slopped all over the
place. So i cut the leafs down and redid the mounts and bushings. The
hammer shaft is an old wagon axle with a laminated steel head and a
feather duster on top. The whole thing is about 10'tall, 90# falling
weight. Swats pretty good and i use a light extension of the upstroke
rebound spring for quick, small strokes.
There's a small 1 qt quench tank on the back of the anvil shaft, with a
lid that closes when the hammer drops, for splashing.
The only thing i bought was swap meet welding rod and some assisting
garage door springs.
Plans? We don need no stinking plans. We just piss weeks away dinking
around and redoing things instead.
