Our hammer work shop using skate wheels cost about $400 several years ago. I
made several design modifications on the one I'm building now. Welding rods
and a few nuts & bolts are probably about $50. Marc's idea may be better
than my idea of using brass bolts in the ram guides.

When I built mine several years ago (it was a group effort to build 6) it
cost me $350 plus sweat equity. Last year, talking with Bob Alexander from
BAM, said that the cost in materials would run $700-800 to build a treadle
hammer yourself. Now if you got access to the right scrap, you could do it
cheaper.
