Ok, I get it.  I've never tried that process, but I've seen some of it, and 
it really adds depth to a flat area, especially if the base material is 
swirled on or brushed on with a zig zag pattern.  One of the best I've seen 
was a room where drywall mud was thinned, put in a hopper gun, and shot on 
pretty heavy.  Then the wet soft plaster was "stippled" with a special 
brush, then painted as usual, then "dry brushed" with some gold color paint. 
It was beautiful.
