Why not use both lump charcoal and metallurgical coke together, ( not 
petroleum Coke that stuff is garbage)?
The charcoal starts easily and will keep the coke burning. The coke will 
give you a sustainable, hot clean fire.
I also use a gas forge and add several lumps of coke per hour to make the 
fire hotter and scavenge any excess oxygen. This reduces scaling the 
billets.
