I agree, their record isn't that good, and I'm being very generous
here. Shell in Nigeria was (is?) incredibly bad. They destroyed
countless communities, whether by pollution or through employment of the
Kill And Go.

Could be, but I am always wary of attributing stupidity to people who
may actually be very smart and holding intentions that serve purposes we
(collectively) would not approve. There are indeed conspiracies out
there. Anyone doubting this need only hearken back to Enron, which was
a Costco-sized conspiracy that just happened to unravel publicly.
